The Heartbeat Music Studio

About

About Us:

Welcome to The Heartbeat Music Studio, where we truly believe that anyone with a heartbeat can make music. Our friendly studio is a warm and inclusive space specifically created to support neurodiverse students through the wonderful power of music. We are passionate about using creative teaching styles that celebrate every learner's unique strengths while building a kind, musical community together. We offer private music lessons and summer camps for students, creating a fun and supportive space to learn, grow, and find the joy in music.

I love being creative, and I know that every person carries their own creativity that deserves to be seen and heard. At The Heartbeat Music Studio, I give students space to fall in love with music and to use their own creativity to discover and express their unique voice and the joy music brings.

I hold a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master’s in Educational Psychology from the University of Regina. I’m trained in RAMSR (Rhythm and Movement for Self‑Regulation) and have completed my Grade 9 Royal Conservatory of Music piano certification, including theory, harmony, history, and counterpoint. I’ve been teaching private music lessons for over 16 years and have worked in the school division since 2017, including seven years teaching elementary band.

My passion and specialty is teaching neurodivergent students. In my time as Camp Connect Creative Director with the Autism Resource Centre, I learned that neurodiversity makes our communities stronger and more beautiful. More recently, my daughter was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This has deepened my commitment to learning everything I can to support her and my students, and it reminds me every day that I am still growing and learning too.

Hi, I'm Tanya!

My musical journey has been a bit like a roller coaster—full of thrilling highs and some challenging lows. I started music at age five in Music for Young Children (MYC) in Regina, SK, and that early love of music soon grew into private lessons. In high school, I fell in love with composing my own pieces and drifted away from traditional lessons for a while. By the end of high school, I realized I wanted to teach music as a career, so I returned to formal lessons to prepare for university. During university, the intense practice schedule made music feel more like a chore, and I fell out of love with it for a time. Thankfully, I found my way back. Now I’m devoted to keeping the joy and fun in music—for myself and for my students.

Meet Tanya
